How the calculation works
Adding tax. Sales tax = amount x rate / 100. The total is the amount plus the tax.
Removing tax. When an amount already includes sales tax, the amount before tax = amount x 100 / (100 + rate). The difference between the two is the sales tax.
Which rate applies?
Sales tax on goods is a federal tax under the Sales Tax Act 1990. Sales tax on services is a provincial tax, collected by the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA), the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB), the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority (KPRA) and the Balochistan Revenue Authority (BRA), and by FBR for services in the Islamabad Capital Territory.
The rates listed on this page are the commonly applicable standard rates. Many goods and services are treated differently: some have a reduced rate, some a higher rate, some are zero-rated or exempt, and some are taxed on the retail price or at a fixed amount. Always confirm the rate for your own goods or service. If it is different, choose "Another rate" and type it.
What this calculator does not cover
- Input tax adjustment. A registered person pays the difference between output tax and input tax, not the whole output tax.
- Further tax or extra tax on particular supplies, and sales tax withheld by withholding agents.
- Federal excise duty, customs duty and income tax withholding on the same transaction.
