NTN Registration

Get your National Tax Number and FBR IRIS profile set up.

  • Fee: Quotation required
  • Online, anywhere in Pakistan

About this service

A National Tax Number (NTN) identifies you with the Federal Board of Revenue. For individuals, the 13-digit CNIC number is used as the NTN once you are registered on FBR's IRIS portal. Registration creates your IRIS profile, which you need to file a tax return, add a business or apply for sales tax registration.

We complete the registration with you using your own mobile number and email address, so the verification codes and the account stay under your control.

  • Individual registration for salaried people, freelancers, landlords and overseas Pakistanis
  • Business details added for sole proprietors
  • Guidance on what to file after registration

Please note that having an NTN does not by itself make you a "filer". Your name appears on the Active Taxpayers List only after you file your income tax return.

Documents required

  • Copy of your CNIC (NICOP for overseas Pakistanis)
  • Mobile number registered in your own name
  • Personal email address that you use
  • Current residential address
  • For a business: business name, address and nature of business
  • For a business: paid utility bill of the premises and rent agreement or ownership proof

Exact requirements depend on your case. Your officer will confirm the final list after reviewing your details.

How it works

  1. Send the inquiry form on this page with your contact details.
  2. We confirm what is needed for your case and the fee.
  3. Your registration is submitted on FBR's IRIS portal using your own mobile number and email. FBR sends the verification codes directly to you.
  4. You receive your registration details and we explain the next step, such as filing your first return.

Frequently asked questions

Is my NTN the same as my CNIC number?

For individuals, yes: after registration on IRIS your CNIC number works as your NTN. Partnerships and companies get a separate NTN.

Does getting an NTN make me a filer?

No. You become a filer when you file your income tax return and your name appears on FBR's Active Taxpayers List.

How long does NTN registration take?

It depends on FBR's system and on how quickly the verification codes are received and entered. Individual registration is usually straightforward; business cases can need extra verification. We do not promise a fixed time.
