Overseas Pakistani Tax Return Assistance
Return filing and residency status guidance for Pakistanis abroad.
- Fee: Quotation required
- Online, anywhere in Pakistan
- Filed only after your approval
About this service
For Pakistanis living abroad the starting point is tax residency. It is generally decided by the number of days you were physically present in Pakistan during the tax year, together with the other conditions in current FBR rules. A non-resident is generally taxed in Pakistan only on Pakistan-source income, such as rent, bank profit or gains on property here.
Many overseas Pakistanis also file to stay on the Active Taxpayers List, because it affects the tax charged on property and banking transactions in Pakistan.
- Residency status worked out from your travel history
- Pakistan-source income and tax already deducted reported correctly
- Wealth statement prepared where it is required
- Everything handled online — you do not need to travel to Pakistan
Documents required
- CNIC, NICOP or POC
- Passport pages showing entry and exit stamps, or your travel history for the tax year
- Proof of residence or work abroad (visa, iqama or residence permit)
- Details of income from Pakistan: rent, bank profit, property sale and similar
- Statements of your bank accounts in Pakistan
- Details of assets held in Pakistan, and abroad where a declaration is required
Exact requirements depend on your case. Your officer will confirm the final list after reviewing your details.
How it works
- Complete the short online application (about 5 minutes) and upload your documents.
- A tax officer reviews your details, confirms the fee with you and tells you if anything is missing.
- We determine your residency status, prepare the return and share the draft with you.
- You review the prepared return and approve it.
- Only after your approval is it filed with FBR through the IRIS portal. We then send you the FBR acknowledgment.
Frequently asked questions
Am I a non-resident for tax purposes?
It mainly depends on how many days you spent in Pakistan in the tax year (1 July to 30 June), along with other conditions in the law. Send us your travel dates and we will work it out.
Do I pay tax in Pakistan on my salary abroad?
Foreign-source income of a non-resident is generally not taxed in Pakistan. Income arising in Pakistan remains taxable here.
Can I do everything from abroad?
Yes. Documents are shared online. FBR sends verification codes to your registered mobile number and email, so tell us if your Pakistani SIM is not active and we will explain the options.
