How take-home salary is worked out

Take-home salary here means your gross salary minus the income tax on it. The calculator adds up your salary for the tax year, works out the income tax from the slabs for salaried individuals and subtracts that tax. The monthly figure is the annual figure divided by 12.

The comparison table applies the slabs of every tax year published on this website to the same salary, so you can see how a change in the slabs changes your pay.

What is not deducted

Only income tax is deducted. Your payslip may also show deductions that are not income tax, such as provident fund contributions, EOBI or social security contributions, loan repayments and other deductions agreed with your employer. These are not included, so your actual net pay can be lower than the figure shown.

Exempt allowances, tax credits and other income are not taken into account either. See the assumptions listed with the result.
