FBR Filer / ATL Status Assistance
Become a filer and get your name on the Active Taxpayers List.
- Fee: Quotation required
- Online, anywhere in Pakistan
- Filed only after your approval
About this service
In everyday language a "filer" is a person whose name appears on FBR's Active Taxpayers List (ATL). People on the list are charged lower withholding tax on many transactions — such as banking, vehicles and property — than people who are not, as per current FBR rules.
To appear on the ATL you need to be registered with FBR and to have filed the income tax return for the latest tax year. If that return is filed after the due date, FBR applies a surcharge before the name is included.
- We check your current ATL status and find out what is missing
- We prepare the pending return and wealth statement for your approval
- We guide you on the ATL surcharge payment to FBR, if it applies
- We check the list again after filing and tell you when your status is active
Documents required
- Copy of your CNIC
- Your NTN / FBR IRIS registration details, if you are already registered
- Income details and bank statements for the latest tax year
- Details of assets and liabilities at 30 June
- Any earlier returns you have filed
Exact requirements depend on your case. Your officer will confirm the final list after reviewing your details.
How it works
- Complete the short online application (about 5 minutes) and upload your documents.
- A tax officer reviews your details, confirms the fee with you and tells you if anything is missing.
- We prepare the pending return and wealth statement and share the draft with you.
- You review the prepared return and approve it.
- Only after your approval is it filed with FBR through the IRIS portal. We then send you the FBR acknowledgment.
- We check the Active Taxpayers List and let you know when your status shows as active.
Frequently asked questions
How can I check my filer status?
Use the Active Taxpayers List search on FBR's website, or FBR's SMS service: type ATL, a space and your 13-digit CNIC number, and send it to 9966.
I filed my return but I am still shown as inactive. Why?
The usual reasons are that the return was filed after the due date and the ATL surcharge has not been paid, or that the list has not been refreshed yet. We check the reason for you.
Do I need to file every year to stay a filer?
Yes. The list is based on the return for the latest tax year, so a missed year removes your name until that return is filed.
