About this service

Buying or selling a plot, house, flat or shop in Pakistan involves several taxes. Advance income tax is collected from both the buyer and the seller when the property is registered or transferred, and the rates depend on Active Taxpayers List status under current FBR rules. A gain on sale may also be taxable, depending on the type of property, when it was bought and how long it was held.

We look at your transaction before you commit, so there are no surprises on the day of transfer.

  • Written working of the federal taxes that apply to the buyer or the seller
  • Whether the gain is taxable and how the holding period affects it
  • How the transaction and the source of funds should appear in your return and wealth statement

Provincial charges such as stamp duty and registration fees are separate from FBR taxes; we point out which ones to confirm with the relevant authority.

Frequently asked questions

What tax is paid when buying property?

The buyer pays advance income tax at the time of transfer, in addition to provincial charges. The rate depends on the property value and your ATL status under current FBR rules.

Is the profit on selling property taxable?

It can be. Tax on the gain depends on the type of property, when it was acquired and the holding period. Tell us the dates and we will check.

Do filers pay less on property transactions?

Under current rules the advance tax rates are lower for people on the Active Taxpayers List than for those who are not. The advance tax paid is reported in your return.
